The design for the new ski jump Holmenkollbakken combines two independent functions: an arena and a viewing platform, in one building. The form consists of two towers that connect to each other at their ends. The asymmetry of the building structure is reflected as a "skin and bones" structural relationship between both sides. The tower head is turned south towards the Oslo Fjord in order to create views as well as to emphasize the dual programs of the building. The north side, which faces the primary wind direction, is made from reinforced concrete. The south side is structured from steel profiles that are covered with expanded metal, which creates an ambiguous surface that alternates between transparency and consistency. Arising from the surrounding topography, the starting tower, adjacent building, and the wave-shaped side walls and seating form the ski arena.
