The project interprets the new hospital for the north of Vienna as an urban landscape which provides a variety of situations and possible actions in space. Based on a ridge form, the building consists of a horizontally compressed mass, which is linked by a highly efficient road system. All components are built from standardized modules and allow for a flexible operation of the hospital. Nestled in a spacious environment of plazas, courtyards and parks, the design is meant to complement the existing urban structure which surrounds the site. Landscape is understood as a dialogue between buildings and open space, whether indoors or outdoors. Visitors and patients, staff and residents can take advantage of this landscape. The permeable structure of the hospital enables this interactive environment.
